VC Santa Paula Site -- Exhibit "Some Works Past and Present" by Xavier Montes, Local Artist
Ventura College Santa Paula welcomes the works of Santa Paula local artist, Xavier Montes. View his exhibit through May 16 (Mondays through Fridays) at Ventura College Santa Paula Site (VCSP), 957 Faulkner Road, Suite 106, Santa Paula. Xavier, known by his nickname, Big X, for both his size and talents, is a visual artist (acrylics), musician (folk harp, guitar, and vocals), community activist, and educator teaching and promoting the cultural arts. One of his major accomplishments was to establish the De Colores Art Show, which Xavier ran and curated for 18 years. The De Colores is one of Santa Paula’s most popular art and cultural events. In 2012, Xavier passed the torch to a new artist so that he could pursue additional endeavors in art, music, and community involvement. Currently, Xavier is exhibiting some of his favorite paintings at VCSP. The exhibit, Xavier Montes: Some Works Past and Present, is a colorful display depicting images of Latino life in the fields, in song and dance, and iconic cultural illustrations.
