Western State Conference Weekly Update
On Thursday, April 9 VC placed 2nd at WSC match held at Glendora Country Club. Zack Kanny shoots 75 along with Casey Lum who played in his first WSC match. Alton Anderson finished with a 77. VC remains in third. Zack Kanny is ranked third in Conference. Alton Anderson seventh and Russell lBoring 6th.
On Monday, April 13 VC wins WSC match at Rio Bravo Country Club in Bakersfield. Alton Anderson shoots a three under 69, Zack Kanny 70 and Casey Lum 75 to lead the Pirates. VC moves into a tie for second in conference with Canyons only two strokes behind SBCC. In individual scoring Zack Kanny moves into second, Alton Anderson third and Russell Boring eighth.
On Wednesday, April 16 VC placed third at WSC match held at Robinson's Ranch GC, which moved VC into second all alone as Canyons places 5th. Russell Boring shoots a team low 72. Zack Kanny fires a 74 and Casey Lum 78 to lead the Pirates. In individual conference scoring Zack Kanny is in second with a 72.71 average, Russell Boring 5th and Alton Anderson 7th.
VC finishes the year second in the WSC Conference.
On Monday, April 27, at the Conference Championships held at Cypress Ridge GC VC placed second in the morning round of 18 holes and third in the afternoon round. Russell Boring was low for the team firing 70-75=145, Zack Kanny shoots 77-74=151, Ryan Turner 73-76=149 Alton Anderson 76-76=152. Zack Kanny finishes the year second in conference with a 73.22 Ave., Russell Boring fourth - 73.33 Ave. and Alton Anderson ninth - 74.11 Ave.
Zack Kanny, Russell Boring and Alton Anderson earn Western States Conference All Conference Team Honors.
The Pirates move on to the Southern California Regionals to be held on Monday, May 2, 2009 at Marshallia Ranch GC. Thirty Six holes to determine who advances to the State Championships.
VC Pirates place third at the Southern Califronia Regionals to advance to the California Community College State Championships where the top four teams from the north and south will compete for the State Title. Alton anderson with a 74 - 70 = 144 made the All Regioinal Team. The top six players from the field of 78 made the team. The State Championships will be held on Monday, May 11 at Sierra View Country Club in Roseville, CA.
VC Pirates finish third at the California Community College State Championsips. In the morning round the Pirates didn't play well and was tied for 6th. However, in the afternoon VC fired an incredible three under 357 to finish third. In the past six years no Pirate team has shot a subpar round. Fresno City earned state championship honors by shooting 358-354 = 712. Palomar was at 372-356 = 728 followed by VC 372-357 = 729.
Alton Anderson was tied with four others for low round with a four under 68-72 = 140. In a card off he finished in fourth place but made the All State Team. Zack Kanny 70-73 = 143 and Russell Boring 72-71 = 143 both finished one under. Casey Lum finished 80-72 = 152 followed by Ryan Turner 79-74 = 153 and Robbie Tovias 81-72 =153.
This is the best finish in VC golf in the history of the State Championships. Since 1950 when the State Championships started VC went to the Championships in 1969 and finished 8th, 1971 - 8th, 1976 - 6th, 1983 - 9th, 1984 - 5th, 1987 - 5th, 1989 - 6th. Jim Johnson (1986) and Kelly Schlender 1994 went to the State Championships as individuals and were Medalists.
