Chrissy Sanford- Athlete
A student athlete at Ventura College from 1998-1999, Chrissy remains one of the most notable athletes in the illustrious history of women's soccer at Ventura College. Despite playing only one season for the orange and black, Chrissy Sanford left a legacy of excellence, unequaled in California Community College women's soccer history.
During her freshman year, Chrissy established a V.C. program and state record when she scored an extraordinary 45 goals and 12 assists in one season. In leading the Lady Pirates to the WSC Women's Soccer Championship, Chrissy was accorded WSC and college Most Valuable Player awards, was an obvious 1st Team All-WSC selection and the culmination of her efforts earned her NSCAA Junior College First Team All-American recognition. While most collegiate soccer athletes will not score 45 goals in a four year career, as a Pirate and with the expertise of 8-time WSC Coach of the year, Steve Hoffman, Chrissy scored 45 goals in one season; a truly amazing athletic accomplishment.
In 1999, Chrissy transferred to the University of Arizona. For the week of September 27 through October 3, 1999, Chrissy was honored as the Pac-10 Player-of-the-Week. Chrissy was the first Arizona player ever to earn such an honor. Chrissy concluded the year fifth in the Pac-10 scoring ranks and she was Arizona's leading scorer with 11 goals, which tied her for the school's single season record. Chrissy also became only the second player in Arizona's program history to register three multiple-goal scoring performances.
After one year at the University of Arizona, Chrissy transferred to Azusa Pacific University where she continued to bring recognition to herself and to the Pirate faithful by earning several prestigious awards as an Azusa Pacific athlete.
During the 2001 season, Chrissy was selected as the Azusa Pacific Offensive Player-of-the-Year, named to the NAIA All-Tournament Team, NAIA Championship Offensive Player-of-the-Year and was accorded NAIA All- American honors. Chrissy Sanford ended her collegiate playing career by being named an NAIA All-American for a second consecutive year while attending Azusa Pacific University.
After college, Chrissy played professionally during 2004 and 2005 for the San Diego Sea Lions of the World Professional Soccer League (WPSL). During the 2004 season, she earned All-League honors.
