HOW TO APPLY
Admission to Ventura College is Open to any high school graduate, anyone possessing a high school proficiency certificate, GED, or any adult 18 years of age or older and capable of profiting from instruction. Students entering any of the public community colleges of California are subject to the residency requirements by the State of California. You may also be eligible to attend as aSpecial Admissionstudent if you are still enrolled in high school.
If you are an international student -- a citizen of another country visiting or planning to visit the United States and study on an F-1 Student Visa -- please do NOT complete this online application, but contact our International Student Office for special application instructions and forms.
Oxnard, Ventura, and Moorpark College share a common application. You need only apply at one college to be accepted at all three colleges. If you have already applied at any of the colleges
within the last year, it is not necessary to reapply.
In completing your online application for admission, please double check the accuracy of the information you enter. We want to be sure that your student record is error-free as you begin your studies at Ventura College.
Select an accurate Program of Study for the program/major you wish to pursue while at Ventura College. If you declare an undecided major or program of study, you will not be eligible for Financial Aid and will not be able to use degree planning tools.
Open to Enrollment: Each course offered by the Ventura County Community College District and its colleges is open to enrollment and participation by any person who has been admitted to the college and who meets the prerequisites to the class or program, unless specifically exempted by statute.
NOTICE: Effective Fall 2014, all new and returning students must complete assessment, orientation and an educational plan in order to be eligible for priority registration. Assessment, orientation and an educational plan must be completed unless you meet one of the exemptions llisted at the bottom of the page
Complete all of the following steps:
1. Complete our online application for admission
- Access the online application using OpenCCC.
- You will be prompted to first create an OpenCCC account.
- Important: After you create your account, you must sign in to complete your application for admission.
- Applications are available in our database within 24 business hours of submission
- You will be asked to enter an e-mail address. If you do not have your own e-mail account, you can create a free email account from any of the sources listed on the OpenCCC website.
2. Setup your MyVCCCD account.
- Once your admission application is processed, you will receive an email from Ventura College with instructions on how to setup your account.
- Students cannot register for classes until their MyVCCCD account is setup.
3. Complete New Student Orientation
Log on to your MyVCCCD account and click on the MySuccess tab to complete online orientation. After you are done, print out your Certificate of Completion as this will be required before making a Counseling appointment.
4. Complete the assessment process.
- Schedule your appointment for an assessment session by completing a Testing Appointment Request Form and submitting it by email to (firstname.lastname@example.org), by fax (805) 289-6425 or in person at the Assessment Center in the Student Services Center (SSC) Building . Only Ventura County Community College District students who have completed the admission application and have a student id number will be allowed to take the assessment test.
- Arrive at the testing center in the SSC Building at least 5 minutes before your session starts. Students who arrive late may lose their seat.
- Have your Ventura College Student ID number with you.
- Allow a total of two and a half (2 1/2) hours for English and math assessment; English is approximately one and a half hours, math is one hour.
- Open seats will be given to walk-in students on a first come-first serve basis; this includes the seats of students who do not show up on time!
- See scheduled testing sessions.
5. Attend a New Student Counseling session and Develop An Educational Plan
- Call the Counseling Office at (805)289-6448 to schedule your New Student Counseling Session and develop your first-semester educational plan.
- As a new and returning student, you must complete a one or two semester "abbreviated" educational plan using DegreeWorks, or develop a comprehensive educational plan that is approved by an academic counselor.
- DegreeWorks is a planning tool to help you track and select the appropriate courses to meet your educational goals. You can access degrees DegreeWorks through your MyVCCCD portal.

6. Apply for Financial Aid
- Submit a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Complete the on-line BOG Fee Waiver (enrollment fees only) .
7. Submit official transcripts from high school and all colleges you have attended.
- Transcripts must be submitted in a sealed envelope.

8. Register for Classes online at MyVCCCD.
- Verify your date & time for registration at MyVCCCD.
- Please check the current calendar for registration dates.
- All registration fees must be paid at the time of registration.
- Registration will not be complete unless the fees are paid in full.
- Financial Aid is available.
- Payment plans are available through MyVCCCD.
All new and returning students are required to complete Orientation, Assessment, and a Student Educational Plan unless they qualify for an exemption. Priority registration will be granted only after all three components are completed. If you believe you qualify for an exemption from one or more of the Student Services and Support Program (3SP) components based on the criteria listed below, complete the exemption request form and submit to the Admissions and Records Office. Submission of the exemption request form will not grant you priority registration.
- Earned an Associate Degree or higher.
- Enrolling solely to take a course that is legally mandated for employment or necessary in response to a significant change in industry or licensure standards. (Documentation must be attached.)
- Enrolled at another college or university and taking classes to fulfill college/university requirements. (Documentation must be attached.)
- I have already completed a degree applicable Math and English class. Applies to assessment only. (Documentation must be attached.)
